3. The Netherlands follow, also on penalties

In the same round, the Netherlands drew Morocco and lost the shootout too. Two of Europe's most storied sides gone in the Round of 32, both from the spot, both to opponents who would go on to make real runs, Paraguay to the last 16, Morocco to the quarter-finals.

4. Norway stun Brazil

Brazil reached the Round of 16 and ran into Norway and Erling Haaland. A 2-1 defeat sent the five-time champions home and lit the fuse on the tournament's best underdog story. Norway would push all the way to the quarter-finals before England ended the ride.
